The film is meticulously wound through by hand and every inch inspected. Grading clips are removed, splices are checked and all old tape splices are remade with new waterproof film splicing tape. As a precaution all cement joins are taped on the cell side to avoid them parting during the restoration processes. Damaged perforations are repaired, dupe sections are removed and locations logged. They are then replaced into the main reel so that the entire reel is either emulsion or cell side out. Finally, 12 feet of machine leader is added to both ends of the film reel.
