Rewashing
Film Emulsion, the coating that contains the actual image, is very delicate and prone to damage, and scratches and abrasions can remove picture information. These problems are easily remedied by our experts, using our purpose built Rewash machine. Film emulsion layers are water-soluble and act like a sponge, swelling when wet. During this process scratches, digs, etc. are closed up. Many telecine houses claim that Rewashing can reduce de-spotting time and costs by around 80%.
Polishing
Film bases are prone to damage in the form of scratches and digs, which are visible upon projection. During the polishing process we soften the base with chemicals, over a polished glass wheel. This process re-contours the sharp scratches which then refract the light during projection, printing, T.K. etc, rendering the scratch invisible. Polishing has the same effect as wet-gate Telecine except that the scratches are removed from the film itself and not just the resulting videotape. These machines were designed by our own staff.
